How to Apply Mineral Sunscreen (And Minimize White cast)

Let's be honest: you've probably tried a mineral sunscreen before and hated it. Why? The dreaded white cast.

Mineral sunscreens are fantastic for sensitive skin because they use gentle filters like Titanium Dioxide to sit on top of your skin and reflect the sun. But this physical barrier is also what can look chalky or white.

The secret? A white cast isn't just about the product—it's also about the application technique. A modern formula plus the right technique makes all the difference.

1. Start with a Modern Formula

First, you can't be using an old-fashioned, thick paste. You need a formula designed to blend. Our Days of Beauty SPF 55+ is a lightweight cream, not a heavy paste. It's made to spread easily and absorb quickly, which is half the battle.

2. Pat, Don't Rub! (The Secret Technique)

This is the most important step. Do not squeeze a huge amount onto your palms, rub them together, and smear it all over your face. This creates a streaky, white mess.

Instead, follow this method:

  1. Work in Sections: Apply sunscreen to one part of your face at a time (e.g., your forehead, then your left cheek, then your right).

  2. Dot It On: Squeeze a small amount onto your fingertips and dot the sunscreen onto that one section.

  3. Pat and Press: Gently pat or press the sunscreen into your skin. Don't rub aggressively. This patting motion warms the product and helps it spread evenly into a thin, protective layer.

  4. Blend the Edges: Once it's mostly absorbed, you can gently rub the edges to blend it in.

This "patting" technique prevents the minerals from clumping up and gives you a smooth, even finish that minimizes any cast.

Sunscreen doesn't have to be a chore. You get the gentle, non-comedogenic protection of a mineral formula with the comfortable, matte finish of a modern cream.
